If you think you're not really into cruises, think again. It's easy to see why this type of vacation has risen in popularity.
A few months ago, Five Star Alliance was able to experience a Rhine river cruise first hand as we traveled from Basel, Switzerland to Amsterdam on a week long cruise on the Ama Prima with Ama Waterways, an awarding winning river cruise line. It couldn't have been more relaxing and enjoyable, with great service, good camaraderie, fantastic food, and a fun-filled itinerary.
There are definitely some nice benefits to taking a river cruise:
No Packing and Un-Packing, (although there are fantastic pre and post cruise options).
All-Inclusive Pricing: With all the sightseeing included in each port of call and plenty of wine at every meal, extras aren't a necessity.
As Active as You Want to Be: With walking groups divided up by walking style, biking and hiking options, and the new wellness program on board, those looking to keep active have plenty of choices...but there's also plenty of places to sit and watch the landscape slip by.
No Seasickness: Cruise vessels are quite stable and do not sail in choppy waters.
Perfect for Solo Travel: Many departures and cabins for solo travelers do not carry an additional single supplement. With a Cruise Manager on board and sightseeing groups when you are off-ship, you are never alone (unless you want to be).
Flexibility: It should be mentioned that nothing is required and you are free to arrange your own free time as you wish.
Small Number of Guests: AMA Waterways custom-built European river ships are recognized as the most innovative on the waterways. The largest has 156 staterooms so there's never more than a few hundred people, including the staff, on board at any time.
Ama Waterways offers a variety of cruise itineraries in Europe such as Christmas Markets, Wine Cruises and Tulip Time as you cruise the Danube, the Douro Valley, the Rhone, the Seine and others on a year-round basis.
